Luke initially rejects, but after learning that his aunt Beru (Shelagh Fraser) and uncle Owen (Phil Brown) were slain by Imperial stormtroopers, he joins Obi-Wan to Alderaan to train as a Jedi. He hands Luke his father’s lightsaber and invites him to join him in Alderaan for Jedi training. He reveals that the Empire tracked down and murdered the Jedi with the aid of his former student, Darth Vader (David Prowse, played by James Earl Jones), Luke’s father’s apparent murderer. McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a Disney+ streaming series based on the character set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope, with Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader alongside McGregor. McGregor’s portrayal of the character in the prequels earned accolades as well, and was seen as one of the trilogy’s highlights.
